FATAL HEAD-ON NEW JERSEY CRASH INVOLVED PUBLIC TRANSIT BUS

On July 9, 2014, a head-on car collision in East Orange, New Jersey left three men dead and two women injured. The collision occurred around 8:50 p.m., when a Nissan Maxima carrying three men collided with a Toyota 4-Runner carrying two women near the intersection of Central Avenue and South Grove Street.

The details of the crash are as follows:

  • The 4-Runner was traveling southbound and the Maxima northbound at the time of the head-on crash.
  • All three men in the Nissan were killed and the two women occupying the 4-Runner were treated for nonfatal injuries.
  • The collision occurred near an occupied NJ Transit bus, and while the bus did not play a direct role in the accident, several of its passengers suffered minor injuries after the bus was forced to stop suddenly.
  • Authorities are still trying to determine the exact cause of the accident, but it has been suggested that excessive speed may have played a role.

The county’s vehicular homicide unit is in the process of conducting an investigation, according to authorities. So far, no charges have been filed, and the victims’ identities are being withheld until all family members are notified. Furthermore, it has not yet been reported whether any of the injured bus passengers will pursue legal recourse for their injuries.
