WHAT FINANCES MUST BE DISCLOSED IN A DIVORCE?

Often, one spouse pays the bills and does the bookkeeping for the family. While this can be practical, it can leave the other spouse with little knowledge of the family's financial situation. For this reason, a spouse might fear that the other spouse will conceal money or other financial assets in preparation for a divorce contest or settlement.

LIABLE FOR DISTRACTED DRIVING EVEN IF YOU WEREN'T IN THE CAR? IN NEW JERSEY, IT'S POSSIBLE

It's well known that texting while driving can be extremely dangerous. So, it was perhaps no surprise when 18-year-old Kyle Best's texting and driving caused a tragic accident in 2009 when his truck veered over the centerline while he exchanged a string of texts with his 17-year-old girlfriend, Shannon Colonna. The sudden lane change sent Best's truck into a head-on crash with motorcyclistDavid Kubert and his wife, Linda. David and Linda each lost a leg, and they sued (and ultimately settled) with Best. What was a big surprise, however, was that David and Linda sued Shannon Colonna as well - arguing that the sender of the text should be treated as a passenger who willfully distracted the driver.

According to the National Center for Family & Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, the divorce rate for couples over age 50 has nearly doubled during the past 20 years. Divorce at any age is complicated, but for individuals divorcing later in life, the financial aspects of separation can be much more complex.

TEMPORARY RELIEF WHILE DIVORCE LITIGATION IS PENDING ― WHAT IS PENDENTE LITE RELIEF?

Waiting until divorce proceedings are complete to receive alimony and child support can cause significant financial hardship. Pendente lite (a Latin term meaning "pending litigation") relief can help ease the financial burden of a lengthy divorce case. Pendente lite is a specific type of support that is paid by one spouse to another during the course of their divorce proceeding until a final order of maintenance is made by a judge. This form of temporary relief is intended to help the supported spouse pay for monthly expenses while the case continues. In addition, pendente liteorders can also prevent one spouse from asserting a financial advantage over the other, who may have fewer financial resources.

WATCH OUT FROM BEHIND

It seems as though rear-end collisions are in the news almost every day. A recent crash illustrates just how dangerous they can be. In that crash, a Greyhound bus ran into the rear end of a tractor-trailer on I-80 in central Pennsylvania, killing one person and injuring 45.
