Motor vehicle accidents: 2 dead in New Jersey crash

Camden County was the site of tragedy in the early morning of April 21, according to state troopers. New Jersey State Police have confirmed that two people were killed in a car accident on Route 42, involving two vehicles and a dump truck. As with many motor vehicle accidents involving multiple vehicles, the investigation into this crash is still underway, and no charges have yet been filed.

Police have reported that a vehicle heading into the northbound lanes of Route 42 collided with a dump truck. The force of the impact was enough to topple the truck onto its side, causing injury to the driver. The extent of the driver's injuries is unknown at this time.

Shortly thereafter, a northbound SUV also crashed into the crippled dump truck. The driver of that vehicle, as well as a back seat passenger, were both declared dead at the scene. Two other individuals were also injured, though it is not clear whether they were passengers in the SUV or in the other car. The extent of their injuries is also not known.

Motor vehicle accidents causing fatalities are taken very seriously by New Jersey law enforcement. In this case, it seems possible the driver of the first car and possibly the driver of the dump truck could be found to have materially contributed to the crash, but only an in-depth investigation will reveal this. In the meantime, regardless of what criminal charges are filed (if any), state law allows all injured parties as well as the families of the deceased to file personal injury and/or wrongful death suits against any driver police find to have helped to cause the accident.
