Motor vehicle accidents: Several dead following crash

Authorities in Burlington County are still determining the cost of life in a two-vehicle crash that killed several people on the afternoon of May 5. New Jersey police say two pickup trucks were involved in the crash, which happened near U.S. Route 206. As with most motor vehicle accidents, this one is still being investigated, and so far, no charges have been filed.

A representative for Eastampton Police offered little information to the public at press time, but did confirm that the area of the accident was shut down for several hours to facilitate the department's investigation into the fatal crash. Apparently, the crash happened at an intersection around 2:30 p.m. in Eastampton Township. Several fire and rescue teams, as well as police from neighboring counties and the state, responded to the massive crash that totaled both vehicles.

Police say everyone involved in the crash was an adult, and authorities confirmed that there were several fatalities, though they did not elaborate on how many people died in the crash. Some individuals involved in the accident managed to survive and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, though no word has been released as to their respective conditions. Police are still not sure what caused the accident, and they are in the process of notifying next-of-kin.

In fatal motor vehicle accidents, charges are not always filed. Sometimes the culprit is human error; other times, the individual New Jersey police believe to be responsible perished in the crash. Not enough information is available at this time to determine how this case will play out, but should one or both drivers have survived the crash, either could be facing criminal charges. In this case, that individual or individuals would benefit from seeking out criminal defense representation to help build a compelling defense ahead of an upcoming court date.
