Motor vehicle accidents: 2 dead in New Jersey

A serious crash in Berlin caused the death of two people and injured two others, according to officers in the area. New Jersey authorities responded to the accident, which took place on White Horse Pike. As with many motor vehicle accidents, the identities of the deceased and injured parties are not being released pending notification of next of kin.

According to the limited information that has been released so far, the accident happened near Ellis Avenue around 5 p.m. the evening of July 22. The crash involved two vehicles: an SUV and a passenger sedan. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, but from photos of the scene, it appears the SUV may have entered the oncoming lane and T-boned the passenger car.

Two people in one of the vehicles were declared dead at the scene. Two people in the second vehicle were injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment, but the extent of their injuries has not been commented on by police at this time. It is also unclear which vehicle was carrying the individuals who were killed. Police have not indicated whether they will be filing charges against the surviving driver.

Fatal motor vehicle accidents must always be carefully investigated to determine the cause of the crash in order for New Jersey authorities to decide whether to pursue criminal charges. Even if no formal charges are filed in this case, the families of the deceased and the injured parties may be able to file wrongful death and/or personal injury suits against the driver found responsible for the crash. These suits are considered civil in nature and are handled separately from criminal charges.
