Motor vehicle accidents: Pedestrian dead in New Jersey

A pedestrian is dead following a fatal crash in a parking lot, according to local sources. New Jersey authorities responded to the crash, which claimed the life of an elderly man. As with many motor vehicle accidents, the cause of this particular crash is still under investigation, and so far, no charges have been filed.

According to the accident report, the crash took place in the parking lot of a shopping center. A woman who has not been publicly identified by police reportedly struck a man who was walking through the lot before driving into a brick pillar. It is unclear at this time whether the accident was the result of driver error, negligence, recklessness or intoxication.

The man, who was reportedly in his 80s, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead of the injuries he suffered in the collision. Police say the woman was questioned on the scene, but they have not filed charges against her at this time. It is still possible that criminal charges will be filed at a later date.

Too little information is available at this time to make an accurate prediction as to the outcome of this case. However, motor vehicle accidents causing fatalities are typically taken very seriously by New Jersey law enforcement, who will work tirelessly to determine a cause for the crash. Even if no criminal charges are filed against the woman in question, the family of the deceased man may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against her in a civil court setting, citing evidence of negligence linking her materially to the crash.
