New Jersey intersections often sites of motor vehicle accidents

New Jersey motorists and pedestrians would do well to exhibit extra caution when approaching intersections. These are high-risk areas for motor vehicle accidents. Many intersections are secured by traffic signals or pedestrian crosswalk lights; however, there is no guarantee that every person will adhere to traffic and safety regulations.

On a recent Friday, just after 8 p.m., a husband and wife were unknowingly crossing the street together for the last time. Before the couple safely made it to the other side of the road, a Jeep Grand Cherokee reportedly struck them. As is required by law, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to cooperate in the preliminary investigation.

The man who died was age 60, and his wife a year younger. A spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee did not suffer any physical injuries in the crash. The roadway was closed to all pedestrians and traffic for several hours in the aftermath of the fatal collision.

New Jersey motor vehicle accidents resulting in death are especially tragic. In addition to severe emotional trauma, grieving family members of fatal accident victims often suffer tremendous financial distress in the wake of their loved ones' deaths. State law allows spouses, adult children or other immediate family members to seek justice by filing wrongful death claims in civil court against those deemed liable for their family members' fatal injuries. Such litigation can be stressful as explicit details of an accident are discussed in a public setting; plaintiffs can alleviate stress by asking experienced personal injury attorneys to speak and act on their behalves in court.
