Motor vehicle accidents: Woman dead in New Jersey

A two-car crash in Gloucester County has left one person dead, according to local sources. New Jersey authorities have confirmed the death of a woman in an accident in Paulsboro. As with most motor vehicle accidents resulting in fatalities, the identity of the woman was being withheld pending the notification of her next-of-kin.

The details of the crash are unclear at this time, but it was confirmed to have occurred at approximately 1:10 p.m. the afternoon of April 21. It appears two vehicles were involved, one driven by the victim and the other by an unknown person, with no passengers in either vehicle. The accident occurred in an intersection, and the force of the collision was enough to throw the victim from her vehicle before being pinned underneath it.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency workers managed to free her from under the vehicle. The other driver was rushed to a local hospital, but is reportedly in stable condition. Police have not filed charges against the surviving driver, nor have they made any public reference to the deceased driver being at fault. Their investigation remains underway at this time.

Motor vehicle accidents are often a result of driver error, either through negligence, recklessness or even intoxication. Of course, if the deceased driver is found to be at fault in this instance, no charges will be filed. When the evidence suggests that the negligence of another party caused an accident, New Jersey law allows the injured party and/or the family of the deceased victim to file civil lawsuits for personal injury and/or wrongful death.
