Motor vehicle accidents: New Jersey man faces charges

A fatal wrong-way crash has left one person dead and another person in custody, according to local sources. New Jersey authorities are still investigating the crash that killed a 49-year-old man in the early morning of Aug. 24. Motor vehicle accidents causing fatalities must be carefully investigated to ensure prosecutors and defense attorneys alike have a strong understanding of the particulars of the crash.

According to press reports, it appears police in Hillside attempted to pull over a vehicle being driven by a 24-year-old man for reasons that were not articulated. Rather than stopping, the man apparently pulled away at high speed, traveling down a one-way street in the wrong direction. He subsequently crashed into a vehicle driven by the 49-year-old victim at an intersection.

The force of the impact forced the older man's car into a utility pole with tremendous force. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police immediately arrested the other man, who now stands charged with manslaughter as well as other traffic violations. He has been held in an Essex County jail since then in advance of a trial date. No date has been announced.

When motor vehicle accidents cause fatalities, they are taken even more seriously by New Jersey courts. When the man has his day in court to face the charges filed against him, he will be represented by a defense attorney whose job it is to build a compelling case for his innocence. That attorney will carefully review all evidence and associated reports of the event to help build such a case.
