Motor vehicle accidents: Car crash kills 1

One person has been reported dead and another is in serious condition following a two-car crash on the afternoon of Oct. 19, according to local authorities. New Jersey state police have confirmed the accident that claimed the life of one individual who has not been publicly identified. The details of this case are still being determined, and as with many motor vehicle accidents, charges may yet be pending.

The information available on this case is limited at this time, but it has been confirmed that a northbound vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike left the road near mile marker 52.7. It appears the driver, who has not been identified, may have lost control of the vehicle. When the driver corrected to return to the turnpike, the vehicle was struck by another car.

Three people were in the initial car at the time of the crash. One of them was reported dead as a result of the accident, while a second individual was rushed to a local hospital with unknown injuries described as severe. The condition of any other individuals involved is not known at this time. Police shut down that section of the turnpike to facilitate their investigation.

When motor vehicle accidents cause fatalities, New Jersey police work tirelessly to determine the cause. Such accidents do not always result in criminal charges against the involved drivers, but state law allows the families of deceased victims as well as surviving injured parties to file wrongful death and/or personal injury suits against the driver or drivers believed materially responsible. Any evidence gathered by police or accident reconstruction can be used to support such cases in civil court.
