WOMAN AND STEP-GRANDDAUGHTER KILLED IN CRASH
Michelle Zenchuk, a 49-year-old resident of Millville, along with her daughter’s step-daughter, Melissa, 8, were killed in a crash when another driver slammed into the driver’s side of their Toyota Camry. The driver of the Honda Civic that slammed into the side of Zenchuk’s Camry, 22-year-old Christopher Platt, also died at the scene. A third occupant of Zenchuk’s car, Zenchuk’s 3-year-old grandchild, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but appears to be recovering.
WORLD RENOWNED MATHEMATICIAN AND WIFE DIE IN CAR ACCIDENT
In a tragic turn of events, John Nash of Princeton, New Jersey, and his wife, Alicia, were killed while riding home in a cab from Newark International Airport. Mr. Nash was an internationally-known and highly-regarded mathematician, made famous by his depiction in the film “A Beautiful Mind,” which discussed his professional achievements and his struggle with mental illness. The Nashes were on their way home from an international conference when their cab driver, who had only driven a cab for two weeks prior to the fatal crash, attempted to pass a car by using the left lane to go around him, collided with a different car, and was sent into the center guard rail. Neither of the Nashes were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. They were both ejected from the cab and died at the scene of the accident. The cab driver survived and is reportedly now in good condition.
MAN AWARDED $100 MILLION JUDGMENT FOR DOG ATTACK
A volunteer feeding his neighbor’s dogs, Steve Constantine, received an award of $100 Million for his serious injuries and psychological damage experienced as a result of a dog attack. Constantine, currently undergoing psychiatric treatment in an inpatient hospital and facing 35 additional surgeries to recover from the attack, was feeding the 12 pit bulls in October of 2014 when the attack occurred. The dogs’ owner, Derick Felton, saw his dogs begin to attack Constantine, but when he realized the severity of the attack, fled the area. One dog was immediately shot by police, and the remaining eleven dogs in the yard at the time of the attack were taken by local animal control personnel and later euthanized. Felton was found and arrested in March of this year, and faces charges of harboring a dangerous animal causing serious injury. As a result of the mauling, Constantine suffered the loss of his left leg below the knee, loss of most of his left arm, and loss of his left ear.
LAWSUIT FILED AFTER DRUNKEN DRIVING CRASH ON ROUTE 22 LEFT ONE MAN DEAD
Robert Kritzar, facing a battery of criminal charges for drunkenly killing a man, is now being sued by the family of the man he killed. On May 28, 2014, Kritzar was working as a mover for We-Haul Moving, transporting the belongings of a woman from Brooklyn across Route 22 through New Jersey to the Lehigh Valley. Before beginning his drive, the woman whose belongings he was moving spoke with him on the phone, and later reported to the police that he had told her he was running a couple hours late, and sounded giddy and had cursed during the phone call. Nathan Warke, the man Kritzar ultimately killed, was driving in his jeep in front of Kritzar and behind a tractor trailer driven by Frederick Ackerman. When traffic got heavy, Ackerman suddenly applied his brakes, as did Warke. Kritzar, due to his high level of intoxication, delayed applying his brakes, and slammed into Warke’s jeep, crushing it against Ackerman’s tractor-trailer. Warke was pronounced dead at the scene. Kritzar’s blood alcohol level was found to be .22 at the time of the crash, nearly three times the legal limit of .08. Kritzar has a history of drunken driving, having pleaded guilty and given six months of probation in 2012 for the offense.
DEA AGENTS BUSTED FOR RUNNING ILLEGAL STRIP CLUB OPERATION IN NEW JERSEY
Two Drug Enforcement Administration agents were charged Wednesday after it was uncovered that the pair were illegally operating a strip club on the side. In addition to failing to disclose their participation in managing the strip club, the agents were further accused of engaging in a variety of shady practices pertaining to the club’s operation, including prostitution and human trafficking.
BAYONNE WOMAN KILLED IN TRAGIC MOTORCYCLE CRASH
A Bayonne mother of three was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon, May 17, in Connecticut when the motorcycle she was riding on collided with an oncoming SUV.
JUDGE ORDERS MEDIATION IN U.S. REPRESENTATIVE’S DIVORCE CASE
In South Carolina, a family court judge recently ordered U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford and his ex-wife to enter mediation in order to settle a financial dispute regarding their two younger sons.
COURT DETERMINES THAT A WARRANT WAS REQUIRED TO TAKE A BLOOD TEST IN NEW JERSEY
In June of 2011, Sundeep Sekhon was the driver in a solo crash that killed his passenger, Amarinder Singh Sandul. Sekhon was arrested and, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes after the crash, was subjected to a blood test. The result of the test was that Sekhon’s blood alcohol level was .06, which is below the .08 legal limit, but was found to be high enough for an expert to determine that he was legally intoxicated at the time of the accident. Sekhon has been charged with vehicular homicide, but it appears that the blood test showing his likely intoxication at the time of the crash will no longer be admissible at trial.
U.S. HOUSE MAY SOON VOTE TO ELIMINATE ESTATE TAX
When the American Taxpayer Relief Act was passed in 2012, it included a provision making the federal estate tax permanent. But now, less than two years after the act’s passage, the U.S. House of Representatives may be on its way to repealing the infamous estate tax.
